Do not go by the CNET comment:
http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/insignia-ns-lcd42hd/1995-6482_7-32743807.html

Its a 9.3/10 by user review, not CNET review. Grain of salt required.

As much as the previous commenter is entitled to his/her opinion, I would much rather rely on someone who has actually used the product for an extended period of time in real world situations than simply a lab (and I prefer Maximum PC’s zero BS reviews myself).  In any case, I for one VERY much appreciate that this deal was posted as I bought the Insignia 42” yesterday afternoon.  Going back to have it pricematched to today’s door crasher price meant that for less than $100 more, I was able to add the 4yr, in-home warranty service.  I call a number and they will come to me; that is a bonus.

As for the unit itself, we have a 32” 720p unit that we have used in the family room since Christmas without a single hiccup.  We got that on sale at BestBuy for $499.99 at the time (and not even on Boxing Day).  It has more than served its purpose and now is our much bigger bedroom unit, replacing the 20” CRT that was there before.

The menus, speed, overall picture, features and connection options are very much improved over the smaller sibling and much welcomed in an environment mix of Rogers cable (for now), FTA sat and Wii competitions.  I will try to report back later on overall reliability but I am VERY happy with my purchase and the money I saved (500 bucks) over getting the LG I originally had my eyes set on.

As a final note, and to be perfectly honest, we will be looking at spending the extra coin to buy a higher brand name when it comes time to replace our RCA 64” rear projection TV.  My wife loves the look and picture of the Sharp Aquos 120Hz 50"+ units so that is where we are leaning; the Samsung, LG, Sony, Pioneer and Toshiba units also look good but the Sharp is the first one she really spoke up about so what mother wants, mother gets.  smile

Just grabbed the 42” 1080p Sharp Aquos.  I’ve seen some notes that say they suffer from color banding.  Hopefully I don’t see it.  If it’s bad, it’ll go back (30 days return)

Worthless deals from worst buy, as always.

Not worst for those of us who have benefited from the deals and are quite happy with our purchases.  I’ve had nothing but good service from the employees of the Ajax Best Buy.  Maybe you should try changing locations or talking to the manager.  Or, just shop somewhere else that makes you happier.  Just a friendly suggestion.  wink

Their managers in Vancouver are truly subhumans. I have had several dealings with them, and they are the kind of people one should feed to the dogs.

To explain. A couple of months ago I was shopping for a laptop so I call one of their locations in vancouver to ask about deals they had to offer. The “person” who answered the phone answered ALL my questions with “come visit our store”. I told her I needed info on their items in stock, return policies, etc. She kept the same answer “ come visit our store”. This got me so pissed off I stayed on hold for 30 minutes just to complain to their head office. The person there was helpful and told me they that was unacceptable and that the managers would call to appologize and even give some kind of gift to make up for their slip in costumer service. The guy was suposed to call within 48 hours, instead he called after a WEEK. By that time I had bought a laptop already elsewhere.

Here is the kicker: he tells me that it is HIS policy not to give ANY information about what he has for sale in his store over the phone. I ask the idiot if this is General Best Buy or policy or his individual policy he tells me it is his personal policy. So I tell him goodbye. When I got some free time I called their HQ again. Turns about that that moron had filed my complaint as solved. i told them to open it again and possibly fire him IMMEDIATELY. They told me he would call me again. I told them: do not let him Call me EVER again or I will consider it harassment because that moron should not be working in any store. The ytold me they would into this.

I call a while later and they say he had complained ABOUT ME, saying that I should not have called in the first place to ask questions over the phone.

When they told me this and they had no answer on when they would fire him, I told them to go to hell and rot there.

Ah, well there you go.  Now I understand it in context and I totally agree with you.  That is unacceptable in every way.  I also don’t let rude and ignorant employees of companies off the hook.  I work with a lot of clients in my job and would be fired if I was as incompetent as some of them. To be honest, I sometimes go looking around simply to drill the “expert” on site to see if they know their shite.  More times than not, my hobbyist knowledge is miles ahead of the useless shpeel they try feeding me.

Anyhow, thank you for taking the time to explain your position.  I do appreciate it and if you ever want to start a petition to send to Best Buy head office, I would be glad to sign it right after yours.  Take care.
