Hot! Olevia 747i 1080p 47” LCD HDTV $1199.97 @ TigerDirect.ca

May 21 Update: This big and beautiful TV is still available at the $1199.97 price point. Colour us impressed!

Billsan101 in our forums spotted this great deal over at TigerDirect.ca - the Olevia 747i 1080p 47" LCD HDTV for $1299.97 $1199.97. Don't let the fact that this unit isn't stamped "Sony" or "Sharp" influence your decision. This model is widely acclaimed as having superb image quality (in both standard and high definition) and good features. Standout features include the very high end SiliconOptix Realta Hollywood Quality Video processor, detachable speakers, glass cover providing screen protection and ease of cleaning, side-mounted connection panel, and more. $1299.97 $1199.97 is a superb price for a 1080p 47" HDTV, let alone one that has outstanding image quality.

Don't just take our word for it though, consider some reviews. Wired.com gives this unit the "Best of Test" award and a rating of 9/10. HDTV Solutions too, has great things to say about the unit. User reviews at CNET.com are glowing as well. Now, if only we could figure out a good reason to buy a 47" HDTV for the office...

Do note that the free shipping currently offered by TigerDirect.ca won't apply to this TV, unfortunately, as it far surpasses the 50lb limit for the offer.

Thanks to Billsan101 for the deal!

We use this exact TV for testing video products at work, and trust me, you WON’T be dissapointed! At this price, it’s comparable to the Sony’s/Sharp’s going for over $2000, and the standard-def quality is great on the set (probably due to the HQV video processor)... Great find, RFD!

What!!

At the link it says, “Unit Weight: 164 lbs. “

Does it have an iron casing? You won’t be mounting that model on the wall…

The listed weight is probably the shipping weight, as some reviews mention it weighs about 132lbs.

It definitely tips the scales, but it’s probably not quite that heavy. The external glass panel probably adds some heft.

This is especially good for folks who don’t want to pay for the HDTV channels, since the standard-def channels look as crisp as CRT-tube TVs!

Great find. I am 95% ready to buy. I might visit a Tiger Direct retail outlet to see one with my own eyes before I buy.

might be re thinking my purchase here… there are only two comments on the tigerdiect website and they are not too positive… one containing “WTF Olevia is terrible this set failed 4 days after i bought it and it took 4 weeks to get it replaced “... not giving me the highest confidence..lol

I bought one from Tigers Etobicoke retail store on April 26, 2008.

I am very impressed with the picture quality and very satisfied with my purchase.

I would definitely recommend this TV.

Hello,
I hope you a very long lasting purchase,
For future buyer, please refer also to the reviews at amazon
http://www.amazon.com/review/product/B000OCT5GE/ref=cm_cr_pr_recent?_encoding=UTF8&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending
almost half of the reviewers are complaining about one thing “Bad after sale support” and these are US buyers (where Olevia headquarters are supposed to be). I would advice purchasing a service plan although tigerdirect doesn’t seem to offer one for that specific set (kind of skeptic) wink

I also got turned off by “bad after-purchase service” reported by many Olevia buyers. Considered buying a 42” lcd a while ago but quickly scratched it off my list. Oh and TigerDirect is the last place I’d shop, see company reports here and on the web (Google).

I dropped by the just opened TigerDirect outlet in Vaughan (Hwy 7 & Weston) to check it out, and one of the Senior Sales Associates told me their Grand Opening sale takes place this coming Saturday, May 31st starting @ 9:00am. The Olevia 747i 47” LCD TV will be reduced to $1,099.97 for that day (valid only at the Vaughan location). They brought in Qty 16 of the 747i’s, so be sure to line-up early if you want to purchase one.

Be sure to check the Thursday May 29th edition of the Toronto Star for TigerDirect’s ad announcing all the Grand Opening specials! grin

My opinion is the $999 web-only price for the 747i on thesource.ca was an error. I attended the Grand Opening event at the TigerDirect store in Vaughan yesterday morning and spoke to the Manager there about the $999 price point. He indicated that this price is below TD’s cost, so there was no way he could do a price match. Apparently TD’s wholesale cost for the 747i is around $1,100, so they make roughly a hundred bucks or ~8% margin when selling at their advertised price of $1,199. The Manager’s comment was “mistakes like the $999 pricing are what hurts the bottom line of discount retailers - no wonder Circuit City (the Source’s parent company) is on the verge of Chapter 11”.

Ted, the Manager of the Vaughan TD location, was in great spirits for the Grand Opening, so I asked to purchase the 747i for $1,099.97, and he said “YES”. Bottom line “right place at the right time” pour moi - one just has to ask the question!

The Vaughan location had a total of Qty 12 747i’s in-stock and in-the-box: 3 units near the front of the store, 8 unts on skids stored to the left of the store, and one unit in the TV demo room underneath the display unit. I’m sure Ted would have sold all the units @ the $1,099.97 price yesterday during the Grand Opening event - all you had to do was show up and ask him directly. Today’s probably a different story, but for those of you in the GTA, you can go to the Vaughan location, ask for Ted, and make him the offer. What’s the worst that can happen? He’ll say “NO” - your only lose is if you don’t try.

It was a good shopping day for me - I was the 80th person in line, so also received a FREE 1Gb Transcent JetFlash V30 USB flash drive just for going through the front doors and I scored the 747i for the low, low price of $1,099.97!

For those who got the few units for $999 on theSource’s on-line store, CONGRATS! I only hope the transaction sticks and they go through with the sale - you’ll find out Monday! grin
